1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says:

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

1 Peter 3:3-4 ESV says:

“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.”

1 Timothy 4:8 ESV says:

“For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”

We are fearfully and wonderfully made. As Believers, it is often frowned upon to spend time on oneself, seeking constantly to serve each other as Christ served the church. But when we learn more about how the Holy Spirit lives in us, we learn more about the very nature of God. Glorifying Him in our hearts and minds is important, but do we glorify Him with our bodies? Do we honor the gift He has given us, the gift of health and wellness and sound mind? How can we learn to develop a gentle and quiet spirit, as Peter mentions?

As a Christian, it’s almost impossible to find a yoga program here in Greensboro that incorporates the foundational and fundamental truths of Jesus Christ. REAL LIFE. REAL YOGA.™ now offers a yoga class especially for Believers. This donation-based class will feature only Christian music, incorporate prayer into each class, and emphasize using our bodies and the Holy Spirit within us to glorify God in all that we do together. Leave refreshed, at peace and ready to walk into God’s purpose for your life.

This class will not only dispel any mysticism and convoluted stereotypes about what yoga is, it will also offer a fun way to exercise in a safe and edifying environment. Lastly, the class is a means of community outreach; by offering a donation-based model, there’s no elitism, no exclusivity, and no barriers. Come one, come all. Give what you can. My specialty training as a Prison Yoga Project® ambassador enables me to reach the at-risk community and offer a trauma-sensitive approach to yoga as well.
